Top 16 Confirmed for World Snooker Championship

The line-up can’t change with one ranking event to go ahead of Sheffield.

The top 16 players in the world rankings that will be seeded at the upcoming 2021 World Snooker Championship have been locked in.

All eight players competing in the Tour Championship this week are already assured of their automatic Crucible berths, and as it is the penultimate ranking tournament of the campaign there can be no further changes.

However, the results at the Celtic Manor in the coming days will still have an impact on which precise position each player will take up in the World Snooker Championship draw.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy, David Gilbert, and Anthony McGill are the only competitors whose seeding spots won’t change.

O’Sullivan is guaranteed to be the top seed as the defending champion, while world number one Trump will definitely be on the opposite side of the draw as the number two seed.

Nobody in the Tour Championship can catch Murphy’s prize money tally, so the Magician is definitely the seventh seed, while Gilbert and McGill are assured of being 15th and 16th respectively.

Barry Hawkins and Jack Lisowski won’t have to worry about their performances in this week’s event – in terms of making the Crucible at least.

The pair had been out of the running on the provisional Race to the Crucible list at various points during this term, but impressive performances in the last few months have seen them rise back into the top 16 at just the right time.

Former champions Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, John Higgins, and Mark Williams are safely in the draw, in addition to former finalists Kyren Wilson and Ding Junhui.

Mark Allen, Stephen Maguire, and Masters champion Yan Bingtao are the other thankful players who will avoid the qualifiers this year.

One notable name to miss out on a place in the top 16 is former World Snooker Championship winner Stuart Bingham, whose failure to win last week’s WST Pro Series saw him narrowly miss out in 18th place.

Bingham and more than 100 other professionals will instead head to the preliminaries next month in an attempt to qualify for the venue stages and the last 32.
